Heleen van den Hombergh has received raging reviews as a singer and composer. Heleen's professional career began when piano miracle Bert van den Brink heard Heleen's voice in 2000 and spoke of "love on first hearing" . Together they invited bass player Tony Overwater, and percussionist Joshua Samson to join the band. With them, Heleen recorded 2 CDs and a DVD and performed at the North Sea Jazz festival, the Concertgebouw, BIMhuis, and many other fine stages in the Netherlands and abroad.
Her first album Heard in the Scene mainly consisted of jazz & soul repertoire. For her second album and theatre performances, under the title " Rush in the Woods! " her long-standing passion for tropical forests inspired the lyrics and compositions.
She started with musical theatre when she was sixteen, singing jazz standards and writing her own songs and stage performances. In the 80s and 90s she performed with friends in many bands and theatre-like settings but did not yet choose a professional career. Instead, intrigued by the tropical rainforests, she studied at the Wageningen University. Followed a life of studying and traveling, including a PhD research about Costa Rica. Coming back to the Netherlands in 1999 she took various classes to strengthen her performance as a singer. Among others with Selma Susanna, director & teacher of various Dutch cabaret stars such as Sanne Wallis de Vries .
